A.  Registered undergraduate, graduate, and professional students of Yale University are eligible for team membership with the approval of the coach and captain provided they meet the following requirements:

1.  Members must make a minimum commitment of two academic years

to  active membership on the team.  This requirement may be waived by the coach and captain in the event that a prospective team member has

significant prior experience shooting skeet and trap.

2.  Team members must attend 75% of all practices throughout the academic year.  Definitive records will be maintained by the captain.

3.Constant demonstration of gun safety is mandatory at all times.

Failure to follow proper gun safety may result in immediate dismissal from the team.

4.A willingness to accept instruction from coaches and other instructors and a desire to improve one’s shooting is also expected of team members.

5.Active reflection on one’s shooting through the use of a shooting journal is expected of all team members.

6.Upon joining the team, all members must sign a written statement stating that they have read and understood these bylaws and agree to be subject to them.

B.In the event that a team member fails to meet any of these requirements, as determined by the coach and captain at any point during the season, the following measures will be taken:

1.The coach and captain will hold a meeting with the team member in question to discuss the issue.

2.At this time the coach and captain may initiate a probationary period of a length set by the coach and captain during which the team member is required to meet a certain set of criteria as determined by the coach and captain.

3.At the end of the probationary period, a second meeting will be held to determine whether the team member in question has satisfied the required criteria.

4.Following this assessment, the coach and captain may choose to remove the team member from probationary status, extend the probationary period, or dismiss the member from the team.

C.The team shall have a maximum of 15 active members in a given season due to space, resource, and coaching limitations.  Special exceptions to this rule may be made at the discretion of the coach & captain.  In the event that there are more shooters than positions on the team, prospective members will be taken on a first-come first-served basis.  A waiting list may be created for prospective members who wish to join the team if the prospective members will meet the membership criteria listed in section I.A at the time an opening arises.  Such a list will be maintained by the captain.

D.New members of the team will be limited to one round of shooting and instruction per practice for a minimum period of two practices.  Following this two week period, new members may be “graduated” by the coach and captain to full membership status and may shoot as many rounds as they desire.  The coach and captain shall make the decision to graduate new shooters based on their fulfillment of the conditions outlined in section I.A and based on improvement in scores.
